So many folks suffer from fibromyalgia, chronic pain, hormonal imbalances, and sleep problems, that it has almost become an epidemic in our world today. If you suffer from one of these, you know the frustration in getting that diagnosis to begin with - and that's only the tip of the iceberg. Then you go down the path of trying to find something - anything! - that works to relieve your symptoms and make getting through the day (or night) just a little easier.
Reversing Chronic Disease was written by the author after a seven year journey of countless medical tests and seeking answers to find out why her health was getting worse. Like so many others, she was told that she would "have to learn to live with it."
...I don't know what's worse, that line, or the "It's all in your head" one. Doctors are a funny bunch, aren't they?
Ms. Stephens began to research an ADHD/Fibromyalia connection after she was prescribed Ritalin for her ADHD and her fibro symptoms virtually disappeared. She noticed a hormone/brain connection, and began to have success in feeling better after using natural hormones. (There's a difference in the types of hormones, which you'll learn more about when reading the book) It's a different approach than conventional medications to helping your body feel better.
Throughout Reversing Chronic Disease, the author continues to talk more in length about alternative treatment options, and over the counter ideas to help those dealing with chronic disease feel better. There are in-depth explanations, check-lists, and help with locating clinicians who work with natural therapies. As someone who believes in natural "medications", I think that exploring some of the options in this book could possibly help others with chronic pain, too. (Keep in mind, we're all different, so just because a course of action worked for someone, doesn't mean it will with you) It is worth looking at the book with open eyes, and discussing it with your doctor or natural physician. If nothing else, it could be considered a stepping stone to trying something new.
Now my DH the nurse wants me to tell anyone that before you stop taking any medication, or if you start taking any vitamin or supplement, to let your doctor or pharmacist have a heads up and discuss it together. You don't want to accidentally make your therapy go haywire - or worse - get sick because something didn't mix well together.
