India has a rich tradition of education. The Indian people are well aware of the advantages of education since the ancient period and as a result, a proper educational arrangement became necessary in most of Indian villages during ancient period. The people used to send their children to schools at an early age and the children received their education on different subjects. After the independence, many villagers migrated to the cities in search of jobs so that a better life could be lead. This created a panic in cities and even after migrating to the metropolises, many had to suffer from the scarcity of foods and shelter. The then Government strongly realized the educational need for all and many government projects were launched to support the working class. Schools were built in cities for the rural children. The villages, were then suffering from a lack of education funds. The government viewed rural education as an effective tool for bringing about social change through community development. The villagers were taught various subjects including the languages, mathematics, science subjects, arts subjects, agricultural subjects, housekeeping subjects, etc. Elementary education has also been made compulsory and free for the children in the villages of India. The Adult Education Programs were launched by the Government to educate the adults and provide them with necessary information.

But in many cases it has been seen that the Government has failed to provide high class education to the rural people. The reason has been identified as the lack of observation on the working of the education providers in those village schools. The teacher student ratio is good in these schools, but the teachers remain absent for days and thus education is hindered to a large extent. Moreover, the mid day meals also do not reach the children properly. The greedy middle men have a large share of these schemes just to feed their own appetite. The technical aids provided by the government to these schools also do not reach them. But there are many infrastructural, social, and economic barriers that keep those growing up in the village from benefitting from the opportunity. The bus bouncing from village to village, delivering poor children to local budget schools is one tangible link of the potential of this movement to the future of the Indian village. There is still the need of common public awareness so that even the remotest part of the country can have the light of education.
